My personal experience with “Anterior Minimal Invasive” Hip Replacement.
I am a very active 68 year old male and this was my second hip replacement within a five year period. The surgeon is Lester Littell, MD, located in Troy, Alabama. Since Dr. Littell had performed my first hip (right) replacement 5 years earlier and I basically knew what to expect when faced with having my (left) hip replaced.. It is a very “simple” procedure for the patient. As I understand it, the surgeon and his staff have to work very hard to replace a total hip through a 4” surgical opening!
I was in the hospital three days and released on the fourth. I was visited by the Physical Therapy Department the morning following the surgery and (with their assistance) was able to walk from the bed to the door. We did this twice during the day. The third day Physical Therapy came by to “supervise “ my walking. This time I was able to walk from the bed to a point out in the hall. We did this twice. The following day I was using only a walker and no support personnel. On this day I was walking freely through the halls. Later in the day, I used only a cane to walk out of the hospital and into the car. Once home I used the cane for another 3 days then began walking with no means of supplemental support. Pain throughout this procedure and healing process was minimal. After the third day it was controlled with Tylenol. No Physical Therapy was prescribed or needed. “Just, walk, walk, and walk”! I am very pleased with both hip replacements, especially after nursing my mother through the 6 weeks of rehabilitation following her “posterior” hip replacement procedure.
Dr. Littell is an excellent surgeon with the patient’s comfort and well being at the top of his priorities. He has a warm and comforting staff. Together they are a great team with which to entrust your health care.
Very Respectfully,
Kelly S. Hudson
